IEC 61511:2016 is the process-industry sector standard derived from IEC 61508. It is the SIS lifecycle standard for chemical, petroleum, refining, pharmaceutical, pulp & paper, food & beverage, and other process industries. In the US, ANSI/ISA 84.00.01 is the harmonised national adoption. It addresses Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and the safety lifecycle from hazard identification through decommissioning.
